Victorian Ghost Photo in Port Townsend, WA (as seen on Coast to Coast AM with George Noory)

I’m excited to report that the above photo is currently on the front page of Coast to Coast AM with George Noory.
Coast to Coast is a fun late-night (well, morning here in Italy!)call-in radio show when you’re in the mood for the mysterious (and I always am.) Topics run the gamut from UFO’s, ghosts, EVP’s, conspiracy theories, the environment, to the downright weird. It’s like good slumber party talk, with a touch of the X Files.
About the Ghost Photo:Port Townsend is a gorgeous seaside village in the Pacific Northwest. Like many towns in that area, it once hoped to become a major seaport. Seattle, of course, eventually won out. Because of economic factors such as this, people moved on to more thriving cities.
The people who remained in Port Townsend did not have the funds to tear down all of the old buildings. As a result, many beautifully preserved Victorian buildings remain intact in Port Townsend to this day.
Since the downtown area of Port Townsend was frequented by sailors and other shady characters, genteel ladies did their shopping up on top of the hill in an area locals still refer to as Uptown. The house where this photo was taken is in Uptown, and my theory is that one of those refined Victorian ladies joined our tea party that evening.
What do you think? I’m curious what you think about this photo. What do you see in it?

Great and scary picture…
I am glad to be 6,000 miles away from PT…
I see a definite face about midway down in the gown. Right to his left and above the seated guest is another face. And.. another I think at the end of the sofa peeking over.. I have these show up in my photos .
where in port townsend was this taken? I live 22 miles from that town. was this at manresa castle?
Thanks for the comments everyone!
@Angelo: It was such a fun party, though, you wouldn’t have minded the extra guest.
@Soleil: I would love to see some of your photos. Do you have any posted online? I’m pretty sure that I see that same larger face in the photo, too.
@Sue J: Nope, it’s not at the Manresa, although I’ve heard some stories about that hotel being haunted. Whereabouts do you live?
The ghost pic is really cool! I see a few things in it; a lady with a long white dress; a couple faces as well. Very cool pic!
The shutter was open for a long time due to the dim lighting. The photographer had their hand and arm raised in front of the camera briefly, you can clearly see the hand and fingers. THe long shutter time makes it look the way it does
Yea! More comments! So glad I got my blog fixed. I hate to think of the comments I missed out on yesterday…
@Lyn: I see different things in it each time I look. I wish I had the original here - it’s a larger photo - but it’s back in the states.
@john: Interesting theory. True, I was experimenting with taking photos without a flash and it was a dim room. Even so, the shutter wasn’t open *that* long. I didn’t use a tripod. Still, if it is a hand in front of the lens, I doubt it’s mine. I never shoot a photo with just one hand.
Well, you never know! But the shutter doesn’t have to open a very long time to get similar results.
@john: True, you never know! You made me very curious. I wish I still had that camera. I would try some experiments to see if I could create the same effect. Better yet, I’d go back to the same house and do some experiments there.
Great Photo, congrts on C2C.
I have some if you want to check them out.

I see two entities. There is the lady in white and to her left, another entity wearing a green scoop-necked dress. She is wearing glasses and her arm is touching the left arm of the Victorian lady in white. Above the lady with the glasses is a black cat. The cat has outlined itself with red in a few areas.
Midway down in the Victorian lady’s white dress is something that could be a face.
My guess is that these two entities are related in some way to a person in the room. Did you show this to the others in the pic?
I took my first ghost photo last year about this time. Subsequently, I became quite fascinated with them and I have studied many such photos. I find that the more one looks at ghost pics, the easier it becomes to see the faces. It’s almost like a skill set.
I have had entities come through in photos like what a partially working scanner might produce. Part of the face comes through but not all. After my little cat Bitsey died last year, she came through in lots of photos. Sometimes she was upside down, which made me laugh. Other times she appeared in pics of mirrors and windows. I have had two cats pass over and both of them appeared in a photo with another larger cat whom I did not recognize.
I forgot to add that I took your pic into Photoshop and lightened it. That is how I can see the cat above the two people.
@Gypsy: Thanks for the comment and the link. I look forward to checking out your photos
@Cher: I’ll have to try lightening the photo, too. I also see that face partway down the dress. That was actually the first thing that caught my eye when I was going through some old photos and suddenly thought, ‘Hey that’s kinda ghostly looking.’ I’m glad others are noticing that face. I don’t see the cat yet, but, like I said, I’ll have to try lightening it and see what I can make out. Thanks!
Very cool picture! What I see looks like a woman dressed in a wedding dress. I wish you could darken out the background and highlight just the ghostly image.
@Bill: Ooh, a wedding dress, I can imagine that. Feel free to save a copy of the photo and fiddle with it in a graphics program, maybe you can clarify the image.
The image I see in the photo is not exactly a woman in a dress. Rather it is an image of the upper part of a woman, from about the chest up, who is wearing a bridal veil. She apparently has dark hair and is looking in approximately the same direction as the other people in the photo. Her right eye, nose, and mouth are particularly clear.
Fun Photo,.. I commented earlier. I feel the lady in green is an actual guest, though, not a ghost. Is this correct?? And, does anyone see the the little boy peering over sofa’s edge? Now, I see the 2nd ghost next to the victorian lady, immediate next to her. I cannot see the black cat.
You asked if I have photos like this online since I mentioned stuff shows up in my photos….
Not online, I don’t have a scanner anymore. BUT.. I have a great photo taken in my living room up in the mountains… if I could entrust it to you and you would send it back to me… this is what is in it…… possible small ALIEN entity standing at end of my sofa, (looking right at the camera) a wolf face, a small angel, an old ancient ( or someone tell me what) a small baby, a small dog, it goes on and on and then I am encompassed as well in fog with an orb in it, one unusual photo that my sister’s husband took of us on their visit. If you want to me to mail it for purpose of posting it, let me know here!! Anyone I have shown it to says someone with more knowledge needs to look at it.
Hi. I’m a member of the Asian Ghost Hunting Team SARIF (Satama Anomaly Research and Investigation Federation 埼玉の異常研究と調査連邦).
We have seen similar photo taken by people here in Japan.
This picture looks like it was taken in low light (the blurry around the edge).
It looks like an extended exposure of someone standing close to the camera then ducking downward out of the way.
A scarry effect but most likely not a ghost.
Where there any other strange happening that night?
To me it looks like smoke, or some other refracted image in the lens. Could be any number of things…but I don’t think it’s a ghost
I see a man’s face, he has short dark hair and mustache - just left of the clock on the wall (near top of photo)
I also see the boys face by the sofa on the right, actually i think i see 2 faces there. the first being the one that is above the womans knee and the second looks like a boy peeking over the edge of the sofa, right above the woman’s chest. Its blurry over there so could be an object on a table etc…
Also i was wondering if there was someone else taking a picture at the same time? And if so was there anything like this in their picture? Reason being all the people in the room look like they are looking to the left and not directly at you (the camera).
Well, more from me again. The last poster sees a face by the clock, actually you have to study carefully, and then you will see that is the elderly face of the victorian lady w/the gown. I studied it for awhile. Now, for the last poster who also sees a face on the sofa above the lady’s knees on the sofa… I see that but is it the sofa itself? I had seen that early on but didn’t comment due to the probability of it being the sofa material.
But, interesting is the photo here in posting doesn’t have what looks like a little skeleton head next to lady(top of sofa) seated on the sofa. Then, if you go to the photo that was initially on Coast to coast, it is there, now it isn’t. just has disappeared!
I see a face (in what looks like a dress) other than that, I see something at the bottom of the sofa. Im going to try and fool around with it a little bit. I’m curious about that cat.!!
I find this strange how many faces can u see? i can see 5. My friends & i always see faces in places where people cant normally see them.
If you look close enough, you can see the fingers of the hand trying to get the attention of the people in the room just as s/he accidentally hits the snapshot button.
Thanks everyone, for all your feedback on this photo!
@Kurt: I think I see the woman you describe, too!
@Akira: There wasn’t anything weird that night that I know of, just a really, really mellow vibe, and everyone was in a great mood. It was one of the happiest parties I’ve been to. People were really connecting, and people hung around a long time - even people who had other things they were supposed to do.
@Raina: Any particular reason you don’t think it’s a ghost?
@tori: A man, huh? I don’t see it, but probably would if you could beam yourself over here and point it out to me!
@ant: No one else was taking pix. See my comment to Shane below to explain why they are looking that direction.
@soleil: I see different things in it at different times, as well.
@Lucinda: Did you find anything when you fiddled around with the photo? I’m curious!
@Lucy Pickup: Yes, I see faces in it, too. I have other photos that are blurry for one reason or another, this photo seemed different.
@Shane: I’m the one who took the photo, so I suppose I’m the only one who knows. But, you see, I was not trying to get anyone’s attention as I took the photo. I like to stay in the background and take candid photos of people when possible. As you can see, they are all looking in a different direction. We were taking turns opening gifts at this party. I was not waving my hand around.
Obviously a double exposure. You’ll see anything in a pic if you stretch the imagination a little.
Interesting photograph. But that was not the Manresa Castle. I visit the Manresa throughout the year and this room does not in any way look familiar.
Hey Heather. I agree; it’s NOT the Manresa. It’s in Uptown, as I say above. Did someone link to this photo and claim that it’s the Manresa? I do know some folks who have experienced some haunted activities in the Manresa, though, but that’s another story… Thanks for stopping by my blog. :)
No,, This was not taken at the Manresa Castle in Port Townsend Washington and Thats not one of the rooms at that hotel,,
Yes, Angela, you’re right; it’s NOT the Manresa (as I also told Heather in the comment above.)
This photo was taken in a Victorian house in Port Townsend’s Uptown, as I say in my blog post. Thanks for stopping by. :)
Which Vicorian house was this taken? I have done quite a few investigations in Port Townsend. Was this at a B and B?
Was this taken at the Holly Hill House??? Just curious. There are actually several haunted areas in Port Townsend. Some are not open to the public. I’ll be doing another investigation there the first week of April 2008. www.ghostscreams.com
No, Carol. It was at a private residence, not a B&B. Don’t know if you read my story about the ‘goat lady ghost’ but it also took place in a private residence in Port Townsend. Have fun with your investigation. I will check out your website to read more. Thanks for stopping by my site! :)
~Tui
Tui- Since I was there with you that night, and also I know the quality of photos you-I just am shocked at how much doubt there is that that is a Victorian lady! Here is Port Townsend, just to let you all know- I have encountered seeing 2 ghost/images- and yeah I believe anything is possible- but probable, no. Until I had these 2 experiences with my own eyes and then being at this party with tui. The difference for me is the chills I get that start at the top of my head and rush down my spine, and also the feeling I get in my heart whether things are true or not- and this picture is a true experience!
